CHEAP AIR INTAKE
You can spend a lot of money buying one of the many air intake systems that are on the market. Or you can make one from plumbing supply parts from the local hardware store for the price of a Super-Sized Meal at Mickey D's.
First, remove the stock air cleaner but leave the large piece of tubing that feeds directly into the throttle body. This piece of tubing will fit directly into a section of plastic waste pipe that a plumber would use to repair your toilet. Using pits and pieces from the plumbing department, you can route your new intake with elbows of various radii to fit your car's need. On my car I fitted a 45 degree elbow to the stock air inlet to the throttle body and then a 12" piece of waste pipe.
For an air filter, I removed the filter element from a furnace filter and secured it with a large pipe clamp. I change the filter element every six months or when ever it looks dirty.
